Add a monitor to a server

How to add a monitor to a server

You can monitor local running services on your cloud servers using ECmanaged. You can access monitors following these steps:

  • go to Server monitors
  • Click on a server from the list
  • Click on Monitors tab.

ECmanaged provides a default SYSTEM HEALTH monitor, as shown above. It monitors Overall capacity (CPU, Memory, Disk, Network) metrics with the default notification profile. You can edit the default monitor by clicking on it, then going to the Rules tab and then clicking the Edit monitor button.

You can add a monitor using the New server monitor button.

As shown in the picture above, you need to define a name for the monitor, select a Monitor type. Currently supported server monitors are:

  • Check URL
  • Check TCP
  • File Stat
  • File Content
  • Apache Server Status
  • Check Process
  • Check Memcached
  • Check MySQL
  • Check Varnish
  • Check NGINX
  • Check PHPFPM
  • Check Monit

You choose the Monitor interval (in minutes), the Maximum attempts before it triggers an incident and the Business Impact of the monitor. Then you click Next.

In this step, you configure the monitor. It depends on the selected monitor type. The picture above shows the monitor configuration for CHECK URL. You also configure the incidents based on metrics and corresponding threshold conditions and choose incident state to be either CRITICAL or WARNING. Then you click Next.

The last step lets you associate a notification profile with the monitor for Warning and Critical incidents.
